Converting to Freeform

Using footsteps is a workable means to lay out animation. However, footsteps follow particular rules and behaviors, which makes them less useful for custom animation.

To make your animation sequences fully customizable, you can convert your footstep animation into standard freeform animation with the simple click of the Convert button. Once you’ve converted the animation, you can edit it using all the techniques that 3ds Max provides. You can even convert the freeform version back to footsteps afterward, if you want (which we’ll look at in Chapter 9).
