Future Trends

Abstract

Despite the great progress made in the last decade, bioprinting still faces several challenges. Future trends, however, have the potential to advance the technology enough to three-dimensional (3D) print functional biological constructs for various applications. Therefore, new technologies should advance bioprinting in multiple aspects, including but not limited to the following: advancements in bioprinting technology and its components; rapid fabrication of tissues and organs by taking advantage of four-dimensional (4D) bioprinting; development of a new top-down biofabrication concept to generate vascularized scale-up tissues and organs; translation of the bioprinting technologies from bench to bedside through exploring ...
