The operating system (OS) is the lifeblood of the computer. It is also the way we communicate with an otherwise inanimate box of electronics. Microsoft Windows 7 is the focus of the most recent version of the A+ exam. Apple and Linux operating systems make up most of the small remaining market, and they compete by specialization. Linux is very stable, small, and perfect for servers. Mac OS X is a user-friendly OS that has a small but very loyal fan base.
