It took Joyce Tenneson (b. 1945) five years to go from teaching photography at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C., to becoming one of this country’s most sought-after photographers. Prior to gaining national attention, Tenneson had been a well-known fine art photographer in Washington, D.C., where she lived. She also achieved recognition in Europe where she has traveled and worked frequently. But it wasn’t until 1985, when she left her teaching post in D.C., opened a studio in New York, and sought commercial assignments, that she realized there was a much larger audience for her work.
