Cutting Sounds and Avoiding Clicks

 

We have seen how to cut into the beginning of a sound but where should the sound end? You do not have to cut out of the soundtrack because the picture ends at that point. When you move from picture to picture you can make the transition by means of a cut or by a mix. The same applies to soundtracks. You can cut instantly out of one sound and into another or you can mix from sound to sound. You will need to provide a sound overlap where scenes dissolve from one to the other in the cutting copy and there are other occasions where the picture cuts but where a sound dissolve can enhance the feeling and mood of the film.
