Matching Sound and Picture

 

We can now consider the sound of the footsteps of the man walking away from his car. You have in the trims bin the sound of a man walking on a stone pavement. How do you make the sound effects supplied by a sound library from a master recording match the movements of the man in your picture? Again you use a synchroniser. Wind down the picture and mark each frame with a cross. Mark one frame only — the frame where the man’s feet and the pavement first meet for each step. That is the frame that makes the sound. Then, wind through the magnetic soundtrack and mark the back of the track with every footstep point. You can then put the first two crosses, one on sound and one on picture, opposite each other in the synchroniser ...
