Negative Cutting: Completing

 

Neg cutting checkerboard and A/B assemblies may sound complicated and time consuming. With practice it is simple and as optical effects are printed directly from the camera original the quality of resulting copies should be superb—far better than from any single roll duplicate.

Checking neg cut rolls

When you get to the end of your assembly rewind the rolls with great care and then replace the two assemblies in the synchroniser. It pays to wind through again, slowly checking each cut and each dissolve. You should not find any mistakes, but if mistakes have been made it is better to know about it now rather than send the reels off to a laboratory and possibly have to pay for a useless print.
