Help Others Be Heard
Sometimes it falls to us to help others to be heard. Not everyone is assertive. Some people are shy, or feel intimidated in group settings. Be on the lookout for these folks. Too often they can be bulldozed by the aggressive or dominant personalities in the bunch. And they need help from more assertive coworkers such as yourself.
By helping others to be heard, you foster an environment of inclusion, an atmosphere such that all are welcome and valued.
When you see someone hanging back in a meeting or group discussion, purposefully ask for her viewpoint, or what she thinks about one of your ideas. Make a concerted effort to help her feel safe, and encourage her to participate.
