It does seem as though technical skills should be what’s rewarded, doesn’t it? After all, it’s your technical skills that make you valuable, right?
Actually, you need a combination of both, and if you’re going to be weak in one, studies show you’re better off to be strong on the people skills and weaker on the technical side.
Assignment
Take stock of your people skills. Where are your strengths and weaknesses? Leverage your strengths, and learn what you can do to improve your weak areas. It will be well worth your effort.
