27Seek Input From Others—Even When It’s Solely Your Decision

Even if you are making the decision alone, without a group consensus, you need input from others. And if you are going for a consensus decision, then you really need input from others! And you should solicit that input.

Talk with or interview anyone who may have a stake in the decision or its outcome. This should include, but is not limited to, other managers and decision makers, your boss or bosses, employees, customers, and vendors. In short, anyone who will be affected in any way by the decision.

Think back on all the decisions that were made without your input, but that had some kind of effect on you. Now you know why it’s important to be as inclusive as possible.
