One of the many lessons learned from 9/11 was the importance of sharing information. Congress faulted the FBI and CIA for not pooling the results of their separate investigations. While that is an extreme example of what happens when the free flow of information is interrupted, it’s, nonetheless, a potent reminder of the importance of making sure that key information reaches its destination.

Some experts refer to information as “workplace currency.” And just like currency, information is meant to circulate. Yet some employees will refuse to share their knowledge or key data out of anger, jealousy, or insecurity.
