Why Great Leaders Never Judge or Confront Their People
Many leaders claim to have an open door, but few have an open mind. As P. T. Barnum said, “Always tell me the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth—even if it costs you your job.” Resolving problems and concerns without people feeling attacked is a major challenge in inspiring people.

On a 3 × 5 card, write: “Problems are behavior—not people.” Often you will find it helpful to define what you’re trying to accomplish in writing and leave people’s names out of it. That way you can constantly refer back to it, as you have conversations and work on what you are trying to accomplish. Add this to your employee cards.
