Your Door Is Open
Have you heard “the lights are on, but nobody’s home”? It’s hard to remember how many times I’ve been told that an employer has an open-door policy, but upon further inspection, I find an open door and a closed mind. Everyone in life operates from a different memory bank shaped by the events in their lives. The challenge in working with people is not allowing those past experiences, prejudices, perceptions, predispositions, and predictions to roadblock our thinking.
Assignment
Make your open door policy also mean an “open mind” policy. Don’t let preconceived notions and ideas block new ideas and information. On your next 3 × 5 card, write: “Open Door—Open Mind.” Review as needed.
