One thing is critical in the creation and operation of a company that has long-term, sustainable success. It’s the thing that makes a difference between good and great. It is the thing that makes a difference between a few good years and many great years. It is the issue of how employees are treated on a day-to-day basis.
Mary Kay Ash said, “There are two things people want more than sex and money...recognition and praise.” When people feel valued and appreciated, they are more productive. The company is more competitive and in a better position to treat its people well, and so on. It’s a virtuous circle. Yet treating people well is surprisingly uncommon in Corporate America today.
