Treating the customer like a friend doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to be their friend. True friendship is a special relationship that you have with only a select number of people in your life. You treat friends differently than you do other people. You show them kindness, trust, respect, patience, understanding, and many other things in this mutually supportive and nurturing relationship.

Acts of kindness and genuine concern for someone else will usually be reciprocated. You don’t have to become friends with your customers, but treating them more like one can have many positive results for both of you.
