Don’t think that discipline will hamper your creativity
Living on the other side of the looking glass from the songwriters who suffer from the too-early editor are the songwriters who refuse, on moral principle, to question anything they do. We’ve seen many of them in our workshops.
Their basic philosophy is that their creative process is a delicate flower that will wither if disturbed in any way. Discipline is a dirty word to them, as is any word having to do with the commonly accepted tools of the songwriting trade, including rhyming, structure, title, chorus, and clarity.
