The record deal rainbow does not necessarily lead to a pot of gold
There are songwriters who are also excellent performers. Many of these writers dream of lining their walls with their own gold records. It’s a worthy dream, but getting there can be a nightmare.
If your goal is to get signed by a major record label, what does that mean to you as a songwriter? Some writers develop a case of tunnel vision, which leads to self-limiting decisions. Case in point, Billy Steinberg’s illuminating story:
