Don’t give up after being rejected
A close cousin to the closet songwriter is the songwriter who shows songs to one or two—or even a hundred—publishers, gets rejected, and gives up. We know this feeling intimately. We could wallpaper several rooms with our accumulated rejection letters. It’s all well and good to say, “Don’t take it personally.” Personally, there have been times when we’ve had such powerful emotional reactions that it feels like hitting a cinder block wall at seventy miles per hour on a motorcycle. Fun, it’s not.
The temptation to chuck all this crazy songwriter stuff gets strong at times. What can we do with these feelings? Why, write a song about them, of course!
