A sizeable amount of research has highlighted the impact ‘leader–member exchanges’ (the relationship between a leader and those they manage – also known as LMX) can have on workplace satisfaction, cultural homogeneity (for example, positive LMXs can result in leaders and members sharing similar values) and task performance. Academics from Michigan State University went one step further in their analysis and asked, ‘how do these relationships change over time?’
