41. Commit to excellence – fire the ‘good’

Businesses all claim to be committed to ‘excellence’. This commitment typically turns up in the business vision as well as the mission statement.

A commitment to excellence really means an intolerance of ‘good’. So, following through on a commitment to excellence means some tough decisions.

Work with your team to help them to focus on excellence and accept that some (possibly many) won’t make it and will need to be let go or moved onto other roles at which they can excel.
