10. Purchase, Download, and Install Mountain Lion

Now come the moments of truth, where you actually get to perform the upgrade to Mountain Lion! As previously mentioned, you have two upgrade paths: you can upgrade from Snow Leopard (version 10.6.8) or from Lion (check for the latest Lion version using Software Update, right before you perform the Mountain Lion upgrade). Either way, Apple has announced that the upgrade will cost $20 (a price cut from the Lion upgrade, which cost $30). You must buy the Mountain Lion upgrade from the Mac App Store, as Apple says there won’t be any physical media sold.

To get Mountain Lion:

1. From the Apple menu, choose App Store.
