Carl Jung (1875–1961), Swiss psychiatrist and researcher, believed that people are born with characteristics and preferences that form their personality. His discoveries about human nature peaked the interest of Katherine Cook Briggs (1875–1968) and her daughter, Isabel Briggs Myers (1897–1980). They conducted their own research and created the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) to assess personality traits based on Jung’s research.
