For some time now, we’ve admired the work of PubFactory, a team within RDW Group’s iFactory division that builds powerful systems for delivering mixed content like books, videos, journals, and reference databases through the web for publishers like Oxford University Press, Sage Publications, DeGruyter, Cengage Learning, Harvard University Press and Bloomsbury.
Today, I’m thrilled to welcome the 30+ members of the PubFactory team to Safari Books Online as part of a technology-asset acquisition. The PubFactory platform is a robust complement to our growing stable of technology for delivering reference and learning products online. During the last decade we’ve developed relationships with more than 70 publishers to deliver their content through Safari Books Online, and we’re very excited to now be working with several of them (and a few new ones) on their own web delivery platforms.
Technology built by the PubFactory team powers sites like the Oxford English Dictionary online, the International Monetary Fund’s eLibrary and Sage Reference Online. At Safari we’ve long been enthusiastic about the future of online subscription models — and for professional, business and technical content in particular — and are excited to take on a broader role in powering the growth of those kind of products. (If you’re a publisher and want to talk about working together, do drop me a line.)
iFactory’s CEO, José Fossi, has joined Safari as our General Manager for Platform and Professional Services. The RDW Group will continue to own and operate iFactory, its web services division, based in Boston, Massachusetts.
