Are you planning to adopt any of the many new products Apple and Microsoft will release in the next few months? Curt Johnson, Executive Marketing Manager, Pearson Education, and computer book business veteran shares his thoughts.

“I’ve been in the computer book business for almost twenty years, and I do not remember ever seeing a six-month period before with so many major software and hardware releases.

“Apple started things off with their new OS X Mountain Lion, released in late July, and followed that up with iOS 6, just released in late September. To go along with that we have the new iPhone 5, and a new iPod touch coming soon. Not to be outdone, Microsoft has been releasing new software at a furious pace – SQL Server 2012, System Center 2012, and Windows Server 2012 are already out. Windows 8, with the revolutionary Metro-style interface, will be released in late October – perhaps the biggest change to Windows since version 3.1. At the same time that Windows 8 is released, Microsoft will release the latest versions of Visual Studio and the .NET Framework. As if these weren’t enough, it looks as though Microsoft will be releasing new versions of Office and SharePoint in the first quarter of next year!

“All of this new software and hardware will send developers and IT Professionals in search of information on how to use and incorporate them – and what better place than Safari Books Online to find all that information in one place?”
