As presented in Figure 1 our approach to analyze the costs and benefits of model-based development consists of five steps. First of all a theory, which summarizes assumed changes in costs, time and quality because of model-based development was developed. The idea behind the theory is to analyze major differences between a hand-coded and a model-based development process. Therefore a couple of hand-coded and model-based development processes, which are used by car manufacturers and suppliers, were analyzed.
