Futures not only work for I/O; they can be used with any kind of computation or data. We will be using the 0.2.x version of the futures crate in these examples. At the time of writing, that version is still in the alpha development phase, but it's expected to be released really soon. Let's see an example of how futures work. We will first need to add the futures crate as a dependency in the Cargo.toml file, and then we can start writing some code in the main.rs file of our project:
