An interesting, rarely noticed trend in the past few years has been that companies that were primarily known for their e-commerce or e-tail offerings have quietly become sizable media companies. Amazon, eBay, and Walmart.com come to mind. Most large online retailers, of course, do display advertising on their sites, usually filled in by ad networks or DSPs.
