A major factor is that ISO machinery is engineered to the millimeter while the U.S. auto industry was working at 1/32 of an inch. An “ISO automobile” is simply more precise and accurate than an “Imperial automobile” because of the measurements used. This was not a problem with the Model T, but it is a disaster with a modern vehicle.
