It turns out that changing the main group name only changes the name in the Project Navigator; it does not change the corresponding folder name on the disk. Further inspection shows that it adds name = "<new name>" to the group definition in <project name>.xcodeproj/project.pbxproj while keeping path = "dir on disk" (quotes are omitted if there are no spaces in the string). Further for both configurations, INFOPLIST_FILE is pointing to literal plist path. The easiest way to change the folder name is by clicking on the little folder icon in the File Inspector of the main group (under Location) and set the new path (relative).
