This chapter has defined the concept of communications barriers and described eight of them: framing differences, defensiveness, physical distance, group size and status differences, internal conflict, groupthink, prejudgments, and language issues. It has also provided ways to recognize these barriers, as well as practical approaches to overcoming them. With a little practice, you should be able to recognize these barriers in your own workplace and find ways to eliminate or work around them as you communicate with others.
