Step 1: Determine the study question. Every forecasting exercise, no matter how simplistic or complex, is based on a fundamental question or need. Find out what that question is, get everyone involved and agree to it, and don't sway from answering that question.

Step 2: Gather workload data. The study question will give you clues as to what data you need. Gather it, store it, and get ready to use it.
