DIfference between VLAN and GLobal Configuration Mode. In Global configuration mode, the vlan configurations are stored in switch configuration file for the normal range VLANs, but for the extended range VLANs the configuration for the switch in VTP transparent mode for extended range vlan is stored in the vlan database file. So if the switch is changed from vtp transparent mode to the client or server mode, then the configurations can get lost.
