Helping Oracle Programmers Keep Sight of the Sheer Joy of Programming: O'Reilly Releases Three New Oracle Books

October 24, 2007

Sebastopol, CA-- Learning how to write code in Oracle PL/SQL can be a challenge; learning how to write code well is another battle altogether, and this is the battle that author Steven Feuerstein has taken on. According to Feuerstein, the Oracle PL/SQL community is rather mature; learning how to code is not the issue. "While there are new programmers coming to PL/SQL all the time, many others have a solid grasp of the features and syntax," he observes. "They are now ready and hungry for ideas on how to improve the quality, performance and maintainability of their code."

Feuerstein, who is widely recognized as one of the leading experts on the Oracle PL/SQL programming language, sets forth a fresh set of recommendations for best practices in his newly updated book for the Oracle programming community. His goal with the second edition of Oracle PL/SQL Best Practices (O'Reilly, US $29.99) is to help readers see their code with "new eyes" so they'll be able to more easily identify opportunities for improvement, be more aware of pitfalls, and come away with a clearer sense of how to proceed to improve code quality.

Oracle PL/SQL Best Practices, Second Edition
One of three new releases for the Oracle community, Feuerstein's book has been thoroughly updated for Oracle 11g and revamped to ensure that programmers are well versed in today's PL/SQL best practices and, perhaps more important, as Feuerstein says, that "they don't lose sight of the sheer joy of programming."
