Synopsis

Browses for network resources.

To Launch

  • Desktop My Network Places

  • My Computer Places click the My Network Places link (web content must first be enabled using Folder Options)

  • Windows Explorer select My Network Places in left pane click Folders button on toolbar

  • Internet Explorer type C: in Address bar press Enter click Up button on toolbar twice double-click on My Network Places

  • Command interpreter start c: press Enter click Up button on toolbar twice double-click on My Network Places

  • Command interpreter explorer press Enter click Up button on toolbar twice double-click on My Network Places

Description

My Network Places is an all-in-one browsing tool that can be used to browse the filesystem of the local computer, shared folders and printers on the network, objects in Active Directory, and web content on the Internet. Really, this tool is just another incarnation of Windows Explorer—as is My Computer—so for a general discussion of this tool, see Windows Explorer in this chapter.

One thing to note, however, are the kinds of icons that are displayed when you open My Network Places by double-clicking on it:
