Synopsis
Browses any resource on the local computer, network, or Internet.
To Launch
Desktop → My Computer
My Network Places → click the My Computer link (web content must first be enabled using Folder Options)
Windows Explorer → select My Computer in left pane → click Folders button on toolbar
Internet Explorer → type C: in Address bar → press Enter → click Up button on toolbar

Description
My Computer is an all-in-one browsing tool that can be used to browse the filesystem of the local computer, shared folders and printers on the network, objects in Active Directory, and web content on the Internet. Really, this tool is just another incarnation of Windows Explorer—as is My Network Places—so for further discussion of this tool, see Windows Explorer in this chapter.
Notes
Right-clicking on My Computer on the desktop lets you do some useful things. Here are the options in the Context menu:
- Open
Opens a folder displaying the drives (floppy, hard, mapped, CD-ROM, and so on) on the local computer.
- Explore
Does the same as Open, except it displays the folder using the two-pane Windows Explorer view.
- Search
Opens the Search Assistant with the focus on searching for files and folders on the local computer (see search).
- Manage
Opens Computer Management (see Computer Management).
