Description
GSWN is present only on Windows 2000 Server computers on which the additional networking component, Gateway (and Client) Services for NetWare, has been installed (see Network and Dial-up Connections in this chapter). GSNW allows Windows 2000 computers to access file and print resources on a Novell NetWare 2.x, 3.x, or 4.x server by using the GSNW server as a gateway. In this way, the Windows computers do not need NetWare client software to be installed on them. GSNW should be viewed as a temporary solution for occasional access to NetWare resources, however.
GSNW opens as a dialog box that allows you to configure a preferred NetWare server (if the NetWare server is using bindery security), the default tree and context for the connection (if the NetWare server is running NDS), and various logon scripts and print options. Select Gateway to open a second dialog box to enable the gateway, to specify a gateway account that has suitable access rights on the NetWare server, and also to create shares for selected NetWare volumes.
