Description
Add/Remove Programs opens a dialog box with the following options:
- Change or Remove Programs
Displays the currently installed programs and lets you update or uninstall them. You can sort this list of installed programs by name, size, frequency of use, or date last used.
- Add New Programs
Installs a new program from a floppy or CD, or using the Windows Update web site, which is a part of Microsoft’s web site that contains new Windows features, system updates, and device drivers. If you have published software to Active Directory using Group Policy, these applications will appear here as programs you can install over the network. See Group Policy in Chapter 4, and Active Directory in Chapter 4, for more information.
- Add/Remove Windows Components
Installs optional components of Windows 2000, such as the Indexing Service.
Notes
Many programs have their own installation utility—if so, use this utility instead of Add/Remove Programs to install, uninstall, or add/remove components of the program.
Programs published using Group Policy may be grouped into different categories. You may need to browse these categories in order to select the right one.
You must be logged on as an Administrator to install or remove optional Windows components.
