Licensing — H

Synopsis

Manages licenses for your Windows 2000-based enterprise.

Description

In Windows NT this administrative tool was called License Manager. In Windows 2000 it is similarly implemented as a dialog box instead of an MMC console.

The Windows 2000 tool is very similar to the old one, and it is used for centrally administering licenses for the operating system, clients, and other applications on Windows 2000 or Windows NT computers in your enterprise. You can use it to view licensing information using the four tabs:

Purchase History

Display when and how many licenses you purchased at different times.

Products View

Display how many licenses you have for each type of product.

Clients (Per Seat)

View user licensing information or revoke a user’s license. (Revoking a license returns it to the pool of available Per Seat licenses for the product.)

Server Browser

Select a domain or computer to administer its licenses. For example, you can add or remove licenses from the server or change the licensing mode for the server from Per Server to Per Seat (a permanent change).

In any of these views, you can use the menu to add newly purchased CALs to the licensing database.
