Name
startup options
Synopsis
Specify whether and how long the boot menu is displayed during startup.
Procedures
The boot menu is the menu showing available
operating systems and is displayed during startup. The boot menu is
constructed from the entries in a Hidden, Read-only, System text file
called boot.ini
, which resides in the root
directory of the boot partition. Although you can edit this file by
hand, it is not recommended as a corrupted
boot.ini
file may prevent your system from
booting:
Start → Settings → Control Panel → System → Advanced → Startup and Recovery |
You can then specify:
Which operating system the computer will automatically boot if you do not respond to the boot menu
Whether the boot menu is displayed or not and how long it is displayed before the default choice is automatically made
Notes
You must be a member of the Administrators group to configure startup options on your computer.
You can configure startup options on remote computers by:
Start → Programs → Administrative Tools → Computer Management → right-click on root node in console tree → “Connect to another computer” → select computer → OK → right-click on root node again → Properties → Advanced → Startup and Recovery
If there is only one operating system installed on the computer, the boot menu is not displayed during startup.
Setting the time of the “Display list of operating systems” to zero seconds causes the boot menu to be bypassed and the default operating system to be loaded automatically.
