Chapter 6. Displaying and Delivering Information

Introduction

Most everyone who comes to your web site wants to take away an answer to a specific question as result of their visit. It's your job as web designer to build a site that fulfills that desire in an efficient and uncomplicated manner. Although you may see your site as a well-structured collection of pages—containing just the right words and images—your visitors, especially first-timers, might see it more as a haystack hiding the needle they want. In this chapter, we'll look at some techniques for using visual cues—such as link text, link titles, and pop-up windows—and delivery mechanisms—such as printable versions, downloadable files, and RSS feeds—that will help your site visitors find, understand, and acquire the information they came to your site to find.
