Accessing Provisioning

First, you must ensure that the Java plug-ins are in the correct location for use by provisioning . Set the environment variable for the NPX_PLUGIN_PATH to the location of ns4. With JRE 1.3.1_01, this path was:

            /usr/java/jre1.3.1_01/plugin/i386/ns4

Finally, launch Netscape (or your favorite browser, providing it supports JRE 1.3.1_01 or later).

Your browser appears. If you are using Netscape, you can check the status of your plug-ins by typing the following into the location field:

            about:plugins

You should see an obvious reference to JRE at the top of the listing.

You will need your browser to provision more users and servers to your system. To test your access to provisioning , type the following URL into the browser’s location field:

            http://<hostname>/vocal/

A simple, text web page appears with the following title and menu:

VOCAL Configuration for <hostname>
Choose one:
. Provisioning
. System Status
. User Configuration

If this appears, you can reduce or close your browser for now. We have made it possible to test your VOCAL installation without having to learn about the provisioning screens. If you would like to learn about the Provisioning server, go to Chapter 4.

For the time being, you can test your installation with the two test users that the deploy script has provisioned for you from the command-line interface.
