Synopsis
VARIANCE(column)The function returns the standard variance of
column, based on the rows selected as a
whole population. Use it in conjunction with the GROUP
BY clause. This function is available as of Version 4.1 of
MySQL.
SELECT col1, VARIANCE(col2) FROM table1
GROUP BY col1;
