Appendix A. Tool Listing

The following is a listing of the tools introduced throughout this book, and some alternatives you may want to consider. The list, while not exhaustive, should give you an idea of the variety of options out there, and a decent introduction to each tool. Some of these tools fall under a package set, such as those offered through Web CEO or SEOmoz subscriptions. Research each option, and try a few out to see what works best for you. The lowest-cost option is often used in this book’s examples, to ensure maximum accessibility. The examples may call out specific features of some tools, though other tools may just as readily support the same features or require less effort.

Overview: Google Analytics (Figure A-1) is perhaps one of the fastest-growing website analytics tools on the market today. It requires that a JavaScript tag be placed on every page on which you want to enable tracking. It is a highly configurable, very robust website analytics suite. There are a great number of blogs and books to support Google Analytics, and a great number of hacks have been written to enable it to track metrics or analytics it may not track out of the box.
