By now we have managed to touch on many of the major subjects concerning using XML within Java code. Besides being able to create, parse, style, transform, constrain, and validate XML, we have looked at using XML within a publishing framework, using XML for remote procedure calls, storing configuration information within XML documents, and now creating XML “on the fly” from Java code. To round out this list of XML topics in Chapter 13, we look at using XML for business-to-business applications. This builds on what we have already seen with regard to XML as a solid solution for distributed applications as well as a standards-based data format. We apply this to some hypothetical companies and walk through the complete process of enabling inter- and intra-business communication for the companies.
