Statistics and Data Mining Books

If you enjoy math, you might want to check out a few of these books:

Data Mining: Practical Machine Learning Tools and Techniques (Morgan Kaufmann)

This is the most popular book on data mining. It’s a nice introduction to the subject and doesn’t require a graduate degree in statistics. The authors of this book developed the Weka data-mining package.

The Elements of Statistical Learning (Springer)

The bible of data-mining techniques. This isn’t an easy read if you don’t know any statistics or algorithms, but it does a nice job explaining how algorithms work and when to use them.

Bayesian Data Analysis (Chapman & Hall/CRC)

A great introduction to Bayesian data-analysis techniques. Also not an easy read if you don’t know statistics, but it does provide a thorough introduction.
