Apple Platforms and Mac OS X

The Macintosh operating system has been POSIX compliant since 2002 when Mac OS version 10 (OS X) was released. OS X is derived from NeXTSTEP/OpenStep, which is based on the Mach kernel, with parts taken from FreeBSD and NetBSD. As a POSIX-compliant operating system, OS X provides all the infrastructure required by the Autotools.
