IBM® RedBooks Now Available In Electronic Format Through Safari® Books Online
May 24, 2004, Boston, MA - Safari® Books Online LLC, a joint venture between industry leading technology publishers O'Reilly Media Inc. and The Pearson Technology Group, a division of Pearson plc (NYSE: PSO), today announced the addition of 180 IBM Redbooks to Safari's leading technical e-reference libraries: Safari Tech Books Online and Safari Bookshelf. The addition of Redbooks to Safari's technical libraries means that technical professionals using IBM technologies can search across multiple books simultaneously to pinpoint exactly the chapter, section, and example or string of code they need. IBM Redbooks, developed and published by IBM's International Technical Support Organization (ITSO), typically provide positioning and value guidance, installation and implementation experiences, typical solution scenarios, and step-by-step "how-to" guidelines that address both hardware and software issues and incorporate product, platform, and solution perspectives.
"Safari users have come to rely on the fact that our content comes from only the best publishers. At the same time they are demanding more and more breadth of content." said Sean Devine, managing director of Safari Books Online. "IBM Redbooks fit the bill on both fronts. Redbooks are a known and trusted entity among technical pros and they help bolster our library of more than 2,000 books."
Using the Safari service, IBM professionals and other programmers and IT users can tap into Safari's database of thousands of trusted technical books to pinpoint answers to time-critical issues. Safari's robust search mechanism scans thousands of leading technical books from IBM Redbooks, O'Reilly, Addison-Wesley, Microsoft Press, and many other leading publishers to deliver relevancy-ranked results at the book and section level. Users can quickly zero in on the exact book and section of the book that contains the answer to the question at hand. The Safari service also gives subscribers the ability to bookmark, annotate, and cut-and-paste code directly, saving time and virtually eliminating the chance of typographical errors.
"By making IBM Redbooks available through the Safari online platform we are able to offer our readers a choice in how they receive our editorial content" said Maggie Blayney, Director of IBM's ITSO. "Sometimes a reader wants a physical book in hand to read or learn about a new topic often times, the interactive features that Safari offers will pinpoint the answer they need on the fly. The Safari Service offers a tremendously quick and easy way for professionals and students to access information in our books online."
