Netg Partners With Safari Books Online® To Offer World-Leading Electronic Reference Libraries To Corporations
Netg's New In-Depth Repository Of Electronic Books Enhances Corporate Learning Initiatives And Speeds Information Delivery To Global Business Enterprises
Naperville, Ill., January 8, 2003 – NETg, a worldwide leader in corporate education and training and part of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC, TSX: TOC), today announced a new electronic reference library to supplement its portfolio of comprehensive corporate learning solutions. In partnership with Safari® Books Online®, LLC, a joint venture between O'Reilly & Associates Inc., and The Pearson Technology Group (PTG), NETg will offer electronic reference libraries to customers in the corporate education and training arena.
Corporations who purchase NETg's corporate learning solutions will now have the option of subscribing to NETg's complete electronic reference library, which includes Safari Tech Books Online and Safari HelpDesk Online. The new offering will be fully integrated into NETg's existing hosted learning platform, creating seamless integration for users.
"Today's corporate learning environment demands tools that extend beyond the corporate classroom," said Joe Dougherty, president of NETg. "NETg recognizes the strategic importance of offering electronic reference libraries as part of a comprehensive training solution for our clients. The quality and breadth of titles in Safari, combined with an extremely powerful search engine, makes this a great addition for NETg's growing list of corporate customers."
NETg's flagship electronic reference library, Safari Tech Books Online, is an online repository of the electronic versions of more than 1,000 technical books. Unlike an online bookstore, this new offering lets users search across all books simultaneously. Users can read the full text of books from cover-to-cover or flip directly to the page they desire. The extensive library includes such well-known names as Addison-Wesley Professional, Adobe Press, Cisco Press, O'Reilly & Associates, Macromedia Press, Microsoft Press, Prentice Hall PTR, Peachpit Press, Sun Microsystems Press, Que, and Sams. More than 70 new titles are added per month, giving users access to the most current and up-to-date information available. NETg will also offer Safari HelpDesk Online, an electronic reference library where knowledge workers can search across leading desktop application books to retrieve instant answers to questions such as how to format a chart in Microsoft Excel or how to use advanced features in Lotus Notes.
"Training managers and executives have a growing interest in comprehensive corporate learning solutions. The complimentary nature of online learning courseware and online reference libraries makes the partnership between NETg and Safari a natural fit," said Sean Devine, Managing Director of Safari. "Safari benefits from NETg's strong relationships and distribution in the corporate training space whereas Safari provides a service that is in growing demand by training managers and executives."
In addition to providing training courses and content to satisfy corporate learning needs, NETg is committed to delivering learning that provides instant and just-in-time access for today's busy executives. Quick reference tools such as NETg's "Search & Select" knowledge support technology enable employees to type in a question and immediately receive a short training session to satisfy their specific information or skill need. Similarly, the new electronic reference library that NETg is offering through Safari allows users to search across numerous reference books simultaneously. The result is that workers in the heat of problem solving can quickly zero-in on reliable answers to time-critical questions.
