In addition to his current work in strategy and corporate development, John Isley has held a variety of editorial and senior management positions in higher education at Prentice Hall, Allyn & Bacon, and Addison Wesley Longman in the United States.
His experience also includes several years as the general manager of Simon & Schuster Europe and Prentice Hall Canada.
As Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pearson eCollege, Matthew Leavy oversees all daily operations, including new business development, account management, customer care, professional services, product engineering technology and product management. Prior to his appointment as CEO of Pearson eCollege, Mr. Leavy was responsible for mergers, acquisitions and strategic partnering activities in addition to numerous internal strategic and operating projects for Pearson Education. He was previously the President of the Pearson Education Latin America Group and has held positions in corporate strategy and technology management both in Pearson and Prodigy Internet.Â
Mr. Leavy also serves as a member of the Board of Safari Books Online, a Pearson joint venture and market leader in the online delivery of computer book content and previously worked as an investment banking associate with Veronis, Suhler and Associates.
Matthew earned his bachelor's degree in Spanish with a minor in Latin American Studies from
Georgetown University.
Jeff Patterson joined Safari Books Online from CMP Technology LLC, where he served in a number of senior executive positions over nine years. His most recent position was president of the Business Technology Group that included leading IT media brands such as InformationWeek, TechWeb and the Web 2.0 Conference.
Prior to CMP, he co-founded Beacon Technology Partners LLC, a market research firm specializing in measuring IT audience behavior and attitudes, and held management positions in media, manufacturing and advertising companies including Cahners Publishing Company (now Reed Business Information); National Semiconductor; Foote, Cone & Belding/San Francisco; Raychem Corporation; and Pinne, Garvin & Hock/San Francisco. Jeff earned his B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley.
Laura Baldwin started with O'Reilly Media in October 2001 as CFO and added COO to her responsibilities in October 2004. She currently runs all of the company’s publishing operations from editorial through sales and marketing. Laura also manages all of O’Reilly’s international offices as well as the finance, operations, IS and accounting functions.
Prior to O'Reilly she was a consultant to the publishing industry through BMR Associates and managed several large consulting engagements over a four year period. Laura’s publishing career started at Chronicle Books the large, premiere publisher of popular culture, art, and children's books as well as gift products where she served as CFO for ten years.
